How progression is actually structured

Badges sit alongside two separate progression tracks, and conflating them is the usual source of confusion about what you are working toward. Player Points are the shop currency: they buy Characters and Skins, and they accumulate across everything you play. EXP is per character: it accrues on the specific character you are playing, unlocks that character milestone Skin at level 25, continues rewarding skins for another three levels, and caps at level 100. Grinding a character you already own therefore builds EXP but brings you no closer to unlocking a new one.

The round pays for objective progress rather than for time survived. A generator puzzle layer awards 5 Player Points and 15 EXP along with 0.5 Malice, and there are four layers to a generator. Survivor actions that protect the team and killer eliminations carry their own awards on the same principle. This is why a passive round in which you avoided everyone pays so little: the game is measuring contribution, not attendance.

None of this accrues in a private server. Progress toward badges, Player Points and character EXP all require public matchmaking, which makes private servers a practice tool rather than a farming one.
