Forsaken status effects are the system doing the most invisible work in the game — and the reason the same character can feel completely different from one round to the next. Forsaken has no perk loadouts and no build crafting, so the tactical variety that other asymmetrical horror games get from equipment comes from somewhere else here: a status effect layer that items, killer abilities and map hazards all plug into. Effects can damage you over time, change your raw stats, alter how much damage is dealt or taken, or change what you can see and hear. This guide explains the categories the game actually uses, where effects come from, and how to play around them — including the two categories most players never realise exist.

The Status System in Brief

  • • Applied by: items, specific killer abilities, map hazards
  • • Category 1: damage over time
  • • Category 2: stats (HP, speed)
  • • Category 3: damage output (dealt or taken)
  • • Category 4: visibility (visual and audible perception)
  • • Plus: other, unused, and scrapped categories

The Five Categories That Matter In-Round

The wiki organises status effects by what they actually do rather than by who applies them, which is the more useful framing in a match. Here is each category and what it means when it lands on you.

Damage over time

These deal small amounts of damage for the duration of the effect. The practical consequence is that your health bar is not a fixed number while one is active — a survivor who looks safe to start a generator layer may not be safe by the time they finish it. Damage-over-time effects are the main reason to value healing that happens between chases rather than during them.

Stats — HP and speed

These directly change player stats such as HP or movement speed. Speed changes are the ones that decide chases: Forsaken survivors cluster tightly around similar walkspeeds while killers range higher, so anything that shifts either number changes the entire geometry of an escape. A slow applied at the wrong moment turns a survivable crossing into a lost one.

Damage output

These change how much damage a killer deals, or how much damage a survivor takes. This is the category that quietly invalidates fixed damage numbers — the attack values published in stat guides, including ours at /blog/forsaken-killer-stats-classes-speed-health-2026, describe base behaviour before modifiers. If a hit felt harder than the number suggested, a status effect is the usual explanation.

Visibility

These change how the player perceives things, whether visually or audibly. This is the most disorienting category because it attacks your information rather than your health. Losing reliable sight or sound in a game where you survive by tracking the killer's position is often worse than losing health — and it is exactly why information-focused survivors like 007n7 hold value.

Other

The wiki keeps an "other" bucket for effects too niche to justify their own category. It is a small group, but its existence is a useful reminder that the system is broader than the four clean buckets above, and that unusual one-off interactions are a deliberate part of the design.

Every Live Status Effect and What It Does

EffectCategoryWhat the wiki documents
BleedingDamage over timeDamage over time, up to 10 HP; level 1 = 2 damage per second, level 5 = 4 damage per 0.625 s
PoisonedDamage over timeDamage over time that stops at 1 HP and turns skin green; level 1 = 2 per second, level 5 = 4 per 0.8 s
BurningDamage over timeSets the player on fire; level 1 = 0.5 per 0.25 s, level 5 = 1 per 0.15 s; the only effect that can kill
CorruptedDamage over timeSame rates as Burning but stops at 1 HP; red binary; John Doe and the Roblox HQ map only
SlateskinStatsHeavy slow, 40 overheal HP per level, blocks Bleeding, Burning, Poisoned, Regeneration, Speed and Vulnerable; Noob only
HemorrhageStatsGradually blocks part of the health bar from being healed; a Medkit or a teammate's help removes it; Guest 666 only
Speed / SlownessStatsSpeed adds 10% walk and run speed per level; each level of one cancels a level of the other
ExhaustedStatsStamina regeneration down and stamina drain up by 10% per level
HasteStatsCooldowns expire 10% faster per level (Haste I turns 1 s of cooldown into 0.9 s)
Strength / WeaknessDamage outputStrength: +20% damage dealt per level; Weakness: 10% less damage dealt per level
Vulnerable / ResistanceDamage outputVulnerable: +20% damage taken per level; Resistance: 20% less per level, and level 5 takes no damage
CreaturesDamage output+25% damage taken per level, bats around the player; Nosferatu only
PurifiedDamage output20% less damage for every 20 HP already lost; ends when hit; Jane Doe only
AtropaDamage output+1 damage per stack from Azure's Perforating or Pummeling, aura revealed to Azure; maximum six stacks; Azure only
Invisibility / UndetectableVisibilityTransparency up to level 5 / immune to highlights and cancels active ones; a killer's Terror Radius goes silent
Blindness / Glitched / SubspacedVisibilityBlurred vision / glitched health and stamina UI (1x1x1x1 only) / camera thrown off with pink blur (Taph only)
Oblivious / HallucinationVisibilityCannot hear the Terror Radius / sees and hears fake things in three levels (Noli only)
Helpless / Stunned / ResonanceOtherNo abilities / no movement or abilities, then Stun Immunity / lets Jane Doe stun a killer for 2.5, 3.5 or 4.5 s

Where Status Effects Come From

Three sources, and knowing which one hit you determines whether you can do anything about it.

Items

Map pickups feed the status system — this is the main way survivors apply beneficial effects to themselves. Only two items exist in standard public rounds — the Medkit and the Bloxy Cola — so item-driven status is comparatively rare in matchmaking and much more common in private servers, where the command panel adds Bloxiade, Epicsauce and the rest. Full roster at /blog/forsaken-items-guide.

Specific killer abilities

Not every killer applies status effects, and the ones who do are the reason certain matchups feel harder than the raw stat comparison suggests. Jane Doe's Crystal Pitch is the clearest survivor-side example of the same mechanic pointed the other direction — she builds status onto the killer before converting with her Hatchet.

Map hazards

The environment itself can apply effects. This is the source players most often forget, because it is not attached to anyone's decision — you can walk into a status effect on an empty map with no killer nearby. It is another argument for learning maps properly rather than only learning chase routes: see /forsaken-maps.

Unused and scrapped effects — why guides disagree

The wiki documents two categories that never appear in normal play. Unused effects are implemented in the game but are not used in any character moveset: Regeneration, Confusion (inverted movement), Hacked (frozen cooldowns), Marked (no visible effect yet) and Nausea (rotating vision). Scrapped effects were once used in character kits and have since been removed: Old Poisoned, which could kill, and Old Glitched, which covered the whole screen until 3.1.0; both now live only in private servers. Both are visible to anyone datamining or reading documentation, which is exactly how outdated or invented status effects end up in guides — someone finds a real entry in the files and assumes it is live. If a guide describes a status effect you have never encountered in hundreds of rounds, that is the likely explanation.

Playing Around Status Effects

There is no loadout to build that resists status effects in Forsaken, so all counterplay is positional and temporal.

Treat your health bar as provisional

With damage-over-time active, the decision "can I start this generator layer" needs to account for where your health will be in ten seconds, not where it is now. Since interruption wipes puzzle progress entirely, starting a layer you will be forced out of is worse than not starting it at all.

Assume your information is wrong when visibility is hit

The correct response to a perception effect is usually to stop making confident plays, not to keep executing the plan you formed before it landed. Route toward structures you know by memory rather than by sight, and avoid committing to open crossings until it expires.

Value healing between chases, not during

Because effects can stack damage on top of hits, the health economy across a whole round matters more than any single heal. This is where Elliot, a Builderman Dispenser, or a Medkit pickup earns its value — topping the team up in the quiet windows so nobody enters a chase already compromised.

Status Effect FAQ

Short answers to what players ask.

Can survivors apply status effects to killers?

Yes. Jane Doe's Crystal Pitch builds status effects on the killer, and that build-up is the setup for her Hatchet payoff. It is the clearest survivor-side use of the system.

Is there a way to cleanse a status effect?

Effects have durations and expire. The wiki does not document a general cleanse mechanic, so we do not claim one exists — the reliable counterplay is surviving the duration by playing more conservatively while it is active. It does document three specific counters: a Medkit, or a teammate answering your call for help, removes Hemorrhage (the blocked part of the health bar then drains away gradually); each level of Speed cancels a level of Slowness; and Undetectable cancels any active highlight. Slateskin, Noob's potion, also blocks Bleeding, Burning, Poisoned and Vulnerable from being applied while it lasts.

Why do published damage numbers not match what I take?

Because the damage output category exists. Published stats describe base values; status effects modify how much damage a killer deals or a survivor takes. Any stat table, ours included, is a baseline rather than a guarantee.

The System Behind the Variety

Forsaken replaces the loadout depth of Dead by Daylight with a status effect layer wired into items, killer abilities and the maps themselves. Effects fall into damage over time, stat changes, damage output changes, perception changes, and a small other bucket — plus unused and scrapped entries that exist in the files but never in your matches. You cannot pre-build against any of it, which means the counterplay is entirely about adjusting how you play once something lands. Recognise the category, adjust the risk you are willing to take, and wait it out.

  • • Effects come from items, specific killer abilities, and map hazards
  • • Categories: damage over time, stats, damage output, visibility, other
  • • Unused and scrapped effects exist in the files but not in live movesets
  • • Perception effects are often worse than damage in a tracking-based game
  • • Published damage stats are baselines — the damage output category modifies them
  • • No loadouts to resist status: all counterplay is positional and temporal
